Diabetes Program

Are you living with diabetes; or know someone who is? Are you interested in diabetes prevention?   Whether you are just recently diagnosed, have had diabetes for years and want to switch to a more flexible insulin regime or are having difficulty affording your diabetes supplies- we are here to help!

What is Diabetes?
Diabetes is a life-long medical condition where the body does not produce any insulin, or not enough insulin. Insulin is needed to help glucose, which is in the food we eat, to enter our body cells. This gives us the energy needed to do our daily activities.

The Deep River Diabetes Program is one of 5 centers that make up the Renfrew County Diabetes Education Program.    We are here to help you manage your pre-, type 1 or type 2 diabetes.  We offer both classes & individual appointments with a Nurse & Dietitian Diabetes Educator.  We cover the following topics in group or individual visits:

What should I bring to my diabetes appointment?

Please note: A physician’s referral is not necessary to attend the diabetes center- we welcome self-referrals!

For more information on classes or group sessions contact:

Erica Van Drunen at (613) 584-3333 x 313 or EricaV@drdh.org.
