The Deep River and District Hospital (DRDH) is actively responding to the rapidly evolving COVID-19 pandemic. Through our response team lead, Janna Hotson – Vice President of Clinical Services, the organization is working closely with the health unit to take recommended precautions. While no cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have been reported in our region to date, the situation is developing quickly.
If you suspect you have symptoms of COVID-19 (which include fever, cough, and shortness of breath), please stay home, isolate yourself from others, and contact the Renfrew County and District Health Unit at 613-735-8653, extension 555, as soon as possible. The Deep River and District Hospital cannot perform any testing for COVID-19 on site.
Beginning this afternoon, all individuals entering the building will need to do so through the Emergency Department entrance. Risk screening for COVID-19 will be in place for each individual prior to entering the organization. When using the Emergency Department entrance, please make way for paramedics and those in distress.
Visitation to the hospital and long-term care will be restricted to limit the potential spread of infection. Until further notice, visiting hours will be in place from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm each day. Those seeking care in the Emergency Department may have one individual accompany them. Visitors under the age of 12 are not permitted. Please do not visit if you feel ill or have symptoms of any respiratory virus.
To reduce the spread of germs, including the flu and COVID-19, it is recommend that you:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, or use hand sanitizer
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth unless you have just washed your hands with soap
- Cover your cough and sneeze with a tissue or into your arm, not your hand
- If possible, stay home if you are sick
- Avoid visiting people in hospitals or long-term care centres if you are sick
- Get your flu shot if you haven’t already, as the flu virus is still circulating in the community
