DRDH Urges Individuals to Help Protect our Community from COVID-19

22-3-2020

The Deep River and District Hospital, Four Seasons Lodge, and North Renfrew Family Health Team are committed to providing excellent, compassionate care to those who need it, while protecting patients, residents, staff, physicians, and the community against the spread of COVID-19. The organization’s Incident Management System has been put in place and leaders are meeting daily to evaluate and implement changes being made on a local, regional, provincial and national scale. As we prepare for an increased demand on our health care system, it is vital that our community participate in slowing the spread of illness.

All persons who have travelled outside of Canada, including Florida or other parts of the United States, are to self-isolate for 14 days after your return. When self-isolating, make arrangements with others to ensure you stay home and do not visit public places such as grocery stores or pharmacies. Public Health Ontario has fact sheets with information on how to self-isolate, as well as how to self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19. You can access the Public Health Ontario fact sheets by clicking here.

The symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, new cough, and difficulty breathing, and these symptoms may occur within 14 days of an exposure to a case. If you do develop symptoms, continue to isolate yourself from others, and immediately call the Renfrew County and District Health Unit at 613-735-8654 for further instructions.

The Deep River and District Hospital continues to suspend non-emergent clinical activity with the aim of preserving capacity as cases of COVID-19 continue to grow in Ontario. Read the March 17 News Release about the Hospital’s suspended services by clicking here. The North Renfrew Family Health Team has also made changes to minimize potential exposure to as many people as possible. Read the North Renfrew Family Health Team’s message to their patients by clicking here.

Visiting restrictions remain in place for the Hospital and for the Four Seasons Lodge Long-Term Care to maintain the safety of our patients, residents, physicians, and staff. Understanding that a reduction in social interaction is difficult at this time, the Hospital will be providing TV rentals free of charge for all inpatients during visitor restrictions. Additionally, enhanced mental health and recreation support will be provided for patients and residents while visiting restrictions are in place.

We can all do our part in preventing the spread of COVID-19. Everyone in Ontario should be practicing social distancing of 2 meters to reduce their exposure to other people. In addition to being responsible and practicing social distancing, please be kind to each other and help out those most in need.
