Laboratory

At Deep River & District Hospital, our laboratory team plays a vital role in patient care by delivering accurate, timely, and high-quality diagnostic testing.

We are proud members of the Eastern Ontario Regional Laboratory Association (EORLA), which is ISO accredited for meeting the highest standards in laboratory medicine.

Our on-site pathology and laboratory medicine services include biochemistry, hematology, and transfusion medicine analysis.

Outpatient Laboratory Services

We offer walk-in bloodwork and specimen collection for individuals with a requisition from a licensed provider. Outpatient samples are referred to Dynacare for testing, and results are sent directly to your ordering healthcare provider. Please note the following:

  • Deep River & District Hospital does not receive or retain a copy of your Dynacare lab results.
  • Outpatient lab results do not appear in MyChart.
  • Specimen collection containers are available from the laboratory.

For easy access to your results, you can register for Dynacare Plus, a secure online portal designed for patients. Visit dynacareplus.com or ask a member of our laboratory team for more information.

We can complete the collection for most tests on-site. However, for certain specialized testing, samples are sent to EORLA partner labs or other reference laboratories. We strive to maintain a turnaround time of under 24 hours whenever possible to ensure prompt results.

Preparing for Your Visit

To have bloodwork or other lab tests completed, please bring the following:

  • A valid provincial health card
  • A signed requisition form from a registered clinician

Laboratory staff cannot release test results directly to you or another provider unless written authorization has been provided.

Walk-In Hours

Outpatient lab services are available on a walk-in basis, Monday to Friday, from 7:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Please be aware that urgent inpatient or emergency department needs may occasionally cause brief delays.

Sample Drop-Off

Samples may be dropped off at the lab during regular hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. We are unable to accept specimens outside of these hours.

Special Instructions for Testing

Some tests have specific requirements to ensure accurate results:

  • Fasting: For certain blood tests (e.g., glucose, cholesterol, etc.), you may need to fast, which involves consuming only water for 12 hours prior. Your provider will let you know if this is necessary.
  • Therapeutic Drug Monitoring: You may need to delay your morning medication dose until after your blood is drawn. Please confirm this with your provider.
  • Glucose Tolerance Testing: You will be asked to consume a glucose drink (provided by the laboratory) and remain on-site for bloodwork at set intervals.
