Residents’ Council

We believe that every resident should feel empowered, heard, and involved in shaping their home.

The Residents’ Council at Four Seasons Lodge is a self-led, democratic body that helps ensure the voices of residents are at the heart of decision-making, quality improvement, and community life within the home.

Purpose

The Residents’ Council serves as a formal advisory group created by the residents, for the residents. The council is dedicated to advocating for residents’ rights, promoting autonomy, and strengthening communication between residents and the leadership team at Four Seasons Lodge. The council offers a structured way for residents to share in the management of their home and helps maintain a community built on respect, collaboration, and dignity.

Objectives

The council plays an active role in improving quality of life at Four Seasons Lodge. Its objectives include the following:

  • Advocating for resident rights, well-being, and autonomy
  • Welcoming and supporting new residents and their families
  • Sharing experiences to identify ideas for enhancing care and quality of life
  • Offering feedback on services, programming, menus, education, and policies
  • Reviewing inspection reports, survey results, and contributing to the Quality Improvement Plan
  • Helping residents and families understand their rights and responsibilities
  • Fostering relationships among residents, families, volunteers, and the broader community
  • Supporting opportunities for personal growth, learning, and engagement

Membership

Membership in the Residents’ Council is open to all residents of Four Seasons Lodge. Family members or individuals of importance to residents may participate if approved by council members on an annual basis.

Chair & Terms

The council is led by a President (or appointed representative), who is elected annually by and from within the membership. A Council Support Person may also be designated to assist with meeting logistics and communication, with the approval of the council.

Meetings

The council typically meets on the third Thursday of each month, or as otherwise agreed upon by members. Meeting information is shared with residents and families through the Resident Information Board, monthly recreation calendars, and email. Minutes from each meeting are posted within the home.

Responsibilities of the Residents’ Council

The council offers a forum for:

  • Discussing issues that affect daily life in the home
  • Recommending changes to policies or procedures
  • Reviewing scheduled meal and snack times and approving seasonal menus
  • Providing input into recreation, spiritual care, and other home programs
  • Celebrating what’s working well while identifying areas for improvement
  • Maintaining communication with the Administrator and care team members

Issues, concerns, or recommendations brought forward by the council are formally documented and responded to in writing by the Administrator within 10 calendar days, as required by law.
