Accessibility

We are committed to providing care and services in a way that respects the dignity, independence, and unique needs of every individual.

We strive to ensure that all patients, residents, visitors, staff, physicians, and volunteers can access our spaces and services comfortably and confidently.

We believe that accessible healthcare is essential to person-centred care. That means removing barriers, listening to individual needs, and continuously improving our practices to ensure everyone can fully participate in their care and our community.

Accessibility in Action

To support everyone being able to access our care and services comfortably and safely, Deep River & District Health offers the following:

  • Wheelchairs: Available at all main entrances.
  • Accessible parking: Designated accessible parking spaces are located near building entrances.
  • Assistive devices: We welcome and support the use of personal assistive devices such as wheelchairs, walkers, hearing aids, crutches, communication boards, and more. Please bring your device with you when coming for care; our team will help accommodate your needs.
  • Service animals: Service animals are welcome throughout our campus.
  • Support persons: Patients with disabilities may be accompanied by a support person during their visit. If there is ever a safety-related reason why a support person cannot be present, our team will work with you to find appropriate alternatives.
  • Translation and interpretation services: Interpretation support is available across the organization in more than 200 languages, including American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Accessible formats: Any information or documents on this website or provided by our organization can be made available in an accessible format or translated to French upon request. To request an accessible format of any content, please contact a member of your care team or reach out to us directly at assistance@drdh.org.

Accessibility Policy & Multi-Year Plan

We are committed to continuously improving accessibility for all those we care for. Our Accessibility Policy and Multi-Year Accessibility Plan set out the steps we’re taking to create more inclusive environments so that everyone can access the care and support they need.

These documents guide our efforts to identify, remove, and prevent barriers that may affect access to care, employment, and services. They help guide our efforts to create inclusive spaces and experiences, from how we design our facilities to how we communicate and deliver care. We regularly review and update our plan to reflect progress and ensure that our practices continue to meet the needs of the people we serve.
