Opportunity

 

DRDH is growing to better meet the needs of our community, and thus the philanthropic DRDH Foundation is also growing. We are seeking an Events & Fundraising Assistant to expand the capacity of the DRDH Foundation to inspire and enable people to strengthen our community by supporting DRDH through donations and volunteerism.

 

The Events & Fundraising Assistant will play a lead role in planning and executing fundraising and supporter appreciation events for the Foundation, in addition to providing administration support for Foundation operations. Reporting to the Community Engagement & Fundraising Coordinator, this individual will work directly with a variety of stakeholders including current and prospective donors, DRDH staff, patients, residents, the general public, community partners, and other third-party interest groups in order to advance fundraising goals.

 

Qualifications

 

The successful candidate will possess a degree or diploma, or equivalent/relevant experience with a minimum of 3 years in communications/marketing, event management and fundraising, preferably in the charitable or non-profit sector. Experience in a leadership role in planning and executing public events is essential.

 

Additional key traits and qualifications for the Events & Fundraising Assistant include:

 

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), social media platforms, non-profit CRM, and graphic design software.
  • Excellent organizational, project planning and time management skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and flexibility in meeting shifting demands and priorities.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Initiative, sound judgment and attention to detail.
  • Strong customer and quality service orientation.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-directed.
  • Demonstrates professional demeanor, flexibility and adaptability.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attendance record.
  • Able to use a high degree of discretion in regards to donors and other fundraising information.
  • Ability to maintain positive, respectful and professional relationships with team members, community partners and other stakeholders, welcoming diverse perspectives and ideas.
  • Completion of a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Background Check.
  • Ability to occasionally work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays for events and off hours meetings, although majority of work is done during normal business hours.
  • Valid G-Class driver’s license for the Province of Ontario, access to reliable transportation and willingness to travel locally as needed for events and meetings.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Coordinate signature Foundation events, ensuring seamless execution and meeting fundraising objectives, while serving as the primary point of contact on the day of the event.
  • Develop and implement event marketing plans to maximize participation and manage the registration process, setup of online event pages, and engagement with participants via email, phone, or in-person.
  • Build and maintain relationships with corporate sponsors and external vendors, securing contributions and ensuring sponsorship commitments are met to their satisfaction.
  • Lead volunteer recruitment, training, and management, orchestrating volunteer activities to support event success.
  • Act as a liaison with third-party event organizers, facilitating organization representation and participation in external events, and contributing to event committee meetings to align plans with organizational goals.
  • Adhere to event budgeting and planning processes to ensure events are cost-effective and aligned with annual objectives.
  • Provide excellent customer service to donors, volunteers, and partners as a primary contact between the Foundation and the public.
  • Handle administrative duties including data entry and quality control in the donor database, compilation of documentation, and coordination of donation receipts and meeting schedules, and other administrative duties as assigned.
  • Support donor relations through content creation for social media and newsletters, assistance with direct mail campaigns, and volunteer management.
  • Assist in the creation of marketing materials, grant proposal submissions, and limited website maintenance, ensuring all content reflects the Foundation’s values and objectives.

The Town of Deep River is located along the banks of the beautiful Ottawa River, and offers an outstanding array of recreational and outdoor activities all year-round. During summer, the area offers activities such as hiking, canoeing, boating, fishing, and golf. In winter, skiing, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing are just a sample of the activities available. With its forests and waterways, the Deep River area offers a great backdrop for an outdoor, wellness-oriented lifestyle. The Town of Deep River is situated along the Trans-Canada Highway, a short half-hour drive from the City of Pembroke, and a two-hour drive from Ottawa. Deep River is also located in close proximity to Canadian Nuclear Laboratories - the largest nuclear research facility in Canada, as well as Garrison Petawawa.
