The Deep River and District Hospital is working with other hospitals and healthcare organizations in the region in order to proactively prepare for the increased demand in supplies needed to deal with COVID-19.
While inventory levels are adequate at this time, the Hospital, Long-Term Care, and Family Health Team are taking action now in advance of an anticipated, prolonged, and increased need for personal protective equipment (PPE) across the province. The organization is working with regional partners, suppliers, as well as the province to plan for the supplies we will need to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.
William Willard, Vice President of Operations, shared that, “the organization is also working with the regional Command Centre to carefully manage supplies and is following guidelines set out by our Chief Medical Officer of Health in terms of use, and we are participating in daily meetings to review supply needs and inventory.”
Janna Hotson, Vice President of Clinical Services and COVID-19 response team leader, said that, “the use of PPE has already increased beyond normal use and the organization is doing all it can to prepare for this increasing demand to be met.”
The organization is reaching out to the community with a message to businesses or individuals who may have surplus unopened, and unexpired PPE, such as masks and gloves, which could be donated to the Deep River and District Hospital.
“Over the last several days we have received many offers of support from businesses and individuals who are eager to help during this pandemic. Many have offered to donate items that we may be able to use if faced with a supply shortage, and for this we are very grateful,” Richard Bedard, Chief Executive Officer said.
Items needed are:
• hand sanitizer
• N95 masks
• surgical masks (with or without visors)
• latex-free gloves
• disinfectant wipes
• protective eyewear (shields, safety goggles)
• level 2 isolation gowns
Those who may have the above items available for donation may drop them off in a bin located outside of the Emergency Department entrance. Please maintain social distance from others and do not come inside the building when dropping off donations.
The Deep River Hospital would like to sincerely thank all those who have already provided donations this week, including Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, the Deep River Chinese Association, and many other individual community members and businesses. The support from our community is much appreciated as we strive to continue providing excellent, compassionate healthcare at a time when it is needed the most.
