Outbreak Declared at DRDH

On the afternoon of January 17, a gastric outbreak was declared on the Deep River and District Hospital’s medical floor by Public Health. With a mix of staff and patients experiencing gastric symptoms, outbreak precautions have been put into effect to prevent further spread of the illness.

Common symptoms of gastric illness include:

Vomiting

Diarrhea (consisting of loose, watery stools)

Nausea

Fever 


  • In order to protect our patients and residents, we ask that you refrain from visiting if you are ill.
  • If you plan to visit, upon arrival please check in with Reception for further direction prior to entering the Medical Floor.
  • Visit one patient or resident only, and exit the building promptly after your visit.
  • Ensure to wash your hands before and after visiting, as well as when entering or exiting the building.
  • If you are experiencing 2 (two) or more of any of the symptoms listed above, please refrain from visiting until you have been symptom-free for at least 48 hours.

 

The organization will continue outbreak precautions to limit spread of the illness and will work with Public Health daily until the outbreak is declared over. Thank you to everyone for your cooperation in helping to keep our patients, residents, and staff free from illness.
